Spending More Time At Home: A Survival Guide Part IV
This week’s survival guide post is all about a good laugh. I’m turning thirty in less than three weeks and my dream 30th was to have a “ridiculous game night” bash with a ton of friends playing games like live hungry hungry hippos and face the cookie. You know, just basically anything to make everyone feel completely absurd and just a little embarrassed. And instead of gifts, I wanted to tell everyone to come prepared to share something that makes them inexplicably crack up and practically hyperventilate. But, it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen, or at least not for my actual birthday, so I thought I’d post my list of things that make me feel like I’m going to die from laughing…and one that makes me laugh cry.
EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY
I can’t believe I only recently discovered and watched this movie. It might be, nay, it IS one of the best things I’ve ever seen with my two eyeballs. Earth Girls Are Easy (1988- Geena Davis, Jeff Goldblum and a million other gems) just became one of my new, all-time favorite movies. For me it’s right up there with Mars Attacks and Spaceballs. There’s a dance-off scene where they make no attempt to conceal the dance double subbing for Damon Wayans character dropping some sick 80’s moves. And then there’s the random singing which makes me go “wait, it’s like, not a musical but it IS a musical?”. I’ve included a clip of ‘Cause I’m a Blonde below of your enjoyment (“I see people working, it just makes me giggle. ‘Cause I don’t have to work, I just have to jiggle”). PURE. GOLD. Folks. Pure gold.
A BIT OF FRY AND LAURIE- “MYSTERY”
I’m pretty sure I shared this in a hidden link on an old blog post and who knows if anyone was curious enough to ever click on it. I remember randomly coming across this episode of Fry and Laurie years ago while sitting in our last apartment and I was in absolute pain from laughter. I can’t explain why I find it so hilarious, but I do. Maybe it’s just the modern-day image of Hugh Laurie as Dr. House that really gets me, I have no idea. It’s now just part of our everyday banter, like if I say “I don’t know, it’s a mystery”, Chris and I both break out into song- “MYYYYYYSTERY, all my life has been a mystery…” (with the voice, of course…you’ll see). Anyway, enjoy this nugget of well…pure joy.
NAKED BABY OWLS
Umm… I don’t really have words for this one. If you’ve ever seen the clip of Kristen Bell in full on tears over a sloth being brought to her birthday party, that’s basically my reaction to what I refer to as “naked baby owls” (and really owl legs in general…and really baby owls in general). I cannot breath. Even searching for the video to link here made me lose it. I. (gasp) just. (gasp) can’t.
And a few bonuses:
