Spending More Time At Home: A Survival Guide Part I
It’s officially April and it’s officially spring and it officially feels like it’s just passing us right on by. BUT! It’s no longer winter and the sun is still shining. The grass is still turning green again. The birds are still singing. The sky is still beautiful. And the weather is still warming up.
I’m starting this part one of the survival guide out by celebrating the warmer months and this gorgeous season we know as spring.
I am completely in love with this time of year. We have a sweet little sun room in our home and it is hands down my favorite place to sit and read in the warmer months. It’s filled with sunlight and succulents and a cozy couch you just want to curl right up on. You can open all the windows and just let the breeze flow in and listen to the birds sing. It’s pure magic.
This is the time of year when I start watering my succulents a little more, they don’t need quite as much in the colder months, and I begin taking a closer look at who might need a trim and a re-potting. It’s also a great time to start taking care of all those little extra ‘babies’ they’ve sprouted and get to propagating.
And another little secret? I am so not above talking to my plants. If you were a fly on the wall, you’d hear me saying things like “You’re looking lovely today!” or “Good morning babies! Doesn’t that sun feel so good?!”. I fully believe they love it.
So spend some time tending to your plant babies. Talk to them, care for them, feed and water them, and just take a little time to marvel at the fact that you’re growing actual living things with a little dirt, sunlight, and water. For me, a huge part of slowing down and really appreciating a simple lifestyle is rooted in (sorry, couldn’t help it) gardens and houseplants.
Here are some of my favorite things for succulents and houseplants:
